pdf-in-zugferd.de: SaaS Turning PDF Invoices into E-Invoices

pdf-in-zugferd.de is my own SaaS product rather than client work: businesses upload a PDF invoice and receive an e-invoice compliant with EN 16931, directly in the browser with nothing to install. I was responsible for development and continue to operate the portal.
The Starting Point:
Since 1 January 2025, a plain PDF without structured data no longer counts as an e-invoice in Germany (as of 12 October 2026). Businesses that create PDF invoices should not have to switch software or re-enter data by hand.
My Services at a Glance:
- Usage-Based Pricing: Technical implementation of billing by conversions used, with no fixed term.
- AI-Assisted Data Recognition: The portal reads the invoice data from the PDF. Recognized values can be reviewed and edited before the file is generated. See AI Web Applications.
- E-Invoice Formats: ZUGFeRD as PDF/A-3 with embedded XML, XRechnung for invoices with a Leitweg-ID. Multiple invoices can be uploaded together, including as a ZIP archive.
- Security & Hosting: AES-256-GCM encryption of stored invoice files, tenant-separated data storage and servers in Germany. The approach is described under AI & Hosting in the EU.
- Technology: Laravel, Filament, Livewire and Tailwind CSS.
- SEO & Multi-Language Setup: German and English versions with hreflang, canonical tags and structured data.
- Operations & Further Development: Ongoing maintenance through a central ticketing system, using AI-driven development.
The Result:
From the first commit in January 2026 to the public launch in October 2026, the work produced a live SaaS with registration, billing and tenant separation. The portal shows that I build more than websites: I also develop and operate web applications with AI components myself.
