What I Mean by AI Web Applications
An AI web application is a web application in which an AI feature handles a clearly defined task. Users upload a document, the AI reads it, and the result feeds a fixed process. I build such applications from the interface to operations and work out with you where an AI feature helps and where conventional programming is better.
Main Example: Reading Documents
The most common use case is reading documents. The process is always similar:
- Upload: Users upload one or more documents.
- AI Extraction: The AI recognises the relevant details in the document.
- Review in an Editor: A person checks the recognised values and corrects them if needed.
- Output: Only after the review is the result created, for example a structured file.

- AI Integration: Connecting an AI service with clear error handling for missing or unusable responses.
- Tenant Separation: Data from different customers stays separate.
- Encryption: Stored files can be kept encrypted.
- Tests: I secure core functions with automated tests.

Realistic Expectations
No AI is guaranteed to read documents without errors. Unusual layouts, poor scans and missing details still need a review, so I plan it in from the start. You save time by checking instead of typing everything yourself. I do not promise a percentage.
Practical Example
One example from my own development is pdf-in-zugferd.de. The portal creates an e-invoice compliant with EN 16931 from an uploaded PDF invoice, directly in the browser. It is my own product, and I was responsible for its development. Recognised values can be reviewed and edited in an editor before the file is generated. The portal serves as a reference for my work on AI web applications, not as an e-invoice conversion offer.

How accurate is the AI at reading documents?
It depends on the document type and template quality. No AI can guarantee error-free recognition, so I build human review into the process: recognised values are shown and can be changed before anything is processed further.
What happens if the AI gets something wrong?
You correct wrong or missing values in the editor before the output is created. The AI extraction provides a suggestion; the decision stays with you.
Can it connect to existing systems?
In principle yes, via an interface, a file export or a direct database connection, depending on your system. I look at your setup and suggest a manageable route.
Where does the data run?
We agree on the location before I build anything. For my own portal, the server and the AI endpoint run at IONOS in Germany. Whether that suits your project depends on your requirements.
